Barrister Anis Rahman, JP:

  • Mr Anis Rahman JP is currently a practicing Barrister, a Magistrate and an Adviser to the Home secretary on Race Equality and community affairs. He was a Whitehall civil servant for twenty years. Mr Anis Rahman has been a non-stipendiary Magistrate for the last 17 years. Mr Anis Rahman is one of the longest serving magistrates in the country.

  • Mr Anis Rahman is now a Direct Public Access Barrister and the head of his chambers based in the City and East End of London. The Chambers offer legal advice directly to the general public, professionals and businesses.
  • Mr Rahman has a double Masters degree in international history, and politics and government (University of London), a Law degree from the University of Westminster, and a postgraduate qualification in shipping law and international trade from the City University. He speaks with authority about Law and order, justice, human rights, race relations, and community affairs and international relations including the UN.
  • Mr Rahman was called to the English Bar from the Honorable Society of Inner Temple and he is now an accredited Pupil Master. He is also a member at the chambers of 12 Old Square, Lincoln’s Inn, London WC2A 3TX. He has a civil litigation background and specialises in Aviation, Employment, Housing, Family, Landlord and Tenant, Defamation, Nationality, Immigration and Asylum, International Law and Human Rights, Judicial review applications. He is a specialist in Mohammedan Law.
  • Mr Anis Rahman is a Trustee of Toynbee Hall, in the East End of London. He is also a Trustee of the Council of Anti-Slavery International who commemorated the Bicentenary Celebration of the Abolition of the Slave Trade in the UK under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott in April 2007. He was a Trustee and Adviser of the World Peace Forum (1998-2000). It is a charity that promotes world peace and human rights to benefit children throughout the world, a project under Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund.
  • Mr Anis Rahman has been serving as an honorary Legal Adviser to the Muslim Council of Britain, Anti- Slavery International, Toynbee Hall, the Muslim News, the British-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh Caterers Association, Bangladesh Center, International Students House, Radio-Bangla, Bangla TV and the Euro-Bangla newspaper. He is also legal adviser to Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Sonali Bank, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and the Bangladesh High Commission. He was an Executive Committee Member of the Immigration Advisory Service (1988-1991) now known as Immigration Advisory Service. He also played a pivotal role in the re-development of Toynbee Hall Free Legal Advice Service (Founded in 1898) and is a pioneer for introducing the free legal advice service at Toynbee Hall for disadvantaged Bangladeshi women in the East End of London.
  • Mr Anis Rahman is a leading labour party lawyer (the Society of Labour Lawyers in the UK). He is a President of the Society of British-Bangladesh Lawyers in the United Kingdom. Besides this he also served as a school governor at Wembley High School, and Oliver GoldSmith Primary school in the London Borough of Brent. He was a Chairman of National Council of Bangladesh Organizations (NCBO) in Great Britain (1983-2001).
