Working Holidaymaker Scheme

The Working Holidaymaker Scheme is an arrangement where a Commonwealth person aged between 17 and 30 can come to the UK for an extended holiday of up to two years. You can work for up to 12 months of your holiday and the holiday should be the main reason for your stay. You can stay in the UK for up to two years from the date you were first given permission to enter as a working holiday maker. You must spend no more than 12 months working otherwise you will be breaking the conditions of your stay. You can take most types of work but you cannot set yourself up in or run a business, or work as a professional.

You must get a visa as a working holiday maker before you travel to the UK. A visa is a certificate that is put into your passport or travel document by an Entry Clearance Officer at a British mission overseas. The working holiday visa is valid 2 years and gives you permission to enter the UK.

In order to qualify as a working holidaymaker, you must be able to support yourself without needing help from public funds and show that you have enough money to pay the cost of your journey to the UK. You must also show that you have enough money for your accommodation and living expenses once you arrived in the UK. You are not eligible for state funds and therefore the job will have to pay you enough to cover your accommodation and living expenses.
